DA welcomes Speaker’s decision on Lonmin debate

The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the Speaker’s decision to hold a debate in the National Assembly on the events that took place at Lonmin mine last week.

This last-minute change to the parliamentary programme follows a formal request made by the DA last Friday morning, in a letter to the Speaker, for time to be made available to debate this issue as a matter of public importance.

As I wrote to the Speaker, it is vital that the institution of Parliament be offered the opportunity to speak to the tragic events of last week on a substantive basis.
