Marius Swart

DA Spokesperson on the Appropriations Committee

Marius Swart was born in Swellendam in the Western Cape in 1941. He spent most of his school life in Kimberley in the Northern Cape but matriculated at Voortrekker High School in Bethlehem in the then Orange Free State in 1958.

After working for a number of years, he enrolled for a BA degree at the University of Stellenbosch where he graduated in 1965, majoring in Business Economics and Industrial Psychology. After graduating, he worked in human resource management and business and became a company director within the public company, Bolton Footwear.

In 1992, he started his own businesses in the construction and motor trades and he entered politics on a fulltime basis when he became the DA Executive Mayor of George in 2000.

In the DA, he has in the past served as the Chairperson of the Eastern Region of the Western Cape and as a member of the Provincial Executive Committee in the Western Cape. He is currently a member of the Provincial Council of the Western Cape, a member of both the Federal Council and the Federal Executive Committee of the DA, and is also the Deputy Chairperson of the party. On his re-election to Parliament in 2009, Marius was appointed as the DA Spokesperson on the Appropriations Committee.
