On Friday, 2 August 2019, I am very pleased to have handed over 179 sectional title deeds to residents of Eldorado Park.
I was joined by the MMC for Housing, Cllr Meshack Van Wyk, as we were able to provide residents of Morenaberg Court and Sneeuberg Court with the dignity of home ownership. The City of Johannesburg’s Department of Housing, through occupation of its rental housing stock, is ensuring this is a reality.
The schemes form part of a township, Eldorado Park Ext. 2, and was built in 1976 with funds advanced by the National Housing Fund, and repaid by the City over a period of time. Morenaberg Court consists of 6 blocks of 2-bedroom flats. Sneeuberg Court has 5 Blocks with a majority bachelor flats and some 1-bedroom units.
One of today’s beneficiaries is 68-year-old Fatima Lloyd, who has been a resident of Morenaberg Court for over 42 years. She said she had dreamed of this day for many years, and was thankful that it has finally become a reality.
I am honoured to be able to hand over these title deeds, which are so much more than a piece of paper, to the families today. I am, however, saddened that it had taken so many years for these families to be given home ownership.
Fast-tracking the delivery of title deeds has been this multi-party government’s priority.
To date, 6659 title deeds have been handed out since coming into office. This has ensured that thousands of Johannesburg residents experience the joy of homeownership.
Today’s handover is another way that the multi-party government is bringing Diphetogo to our residents.
It is this service delivery which has shamed the ANC following their years of neglect, failure and corruption. This is why they are tabling a motion of no confidence against the multi-party government.
