Democratic Alliance was formed to consolidate the support of opposition voters in South Africa based on common values and principles for a better South Africa for all its citizens.
 
The Founding Federal Congress of the Democratic Alliance was held on 13 - 14 April 2002 where the Party's Leadership was elected and the Federal Constitution approved.
Together, we are committed to building a political movement that is home to South Africans from all communities, and that will effectively challenge for political power.
 

Programme of Action :
 
The Democratic Alliance will promote its growth in all communities with the intention of achieving our aim which is for South Africa to be governed, in all spheres of government, according to our core values and principles so that our vision of a prosperous open opportunity society in which every person is free, responsible, equal before the law, secure, and has the opportunity to improve the quality of his or her life, can be realised.
