After successful trials, the Go George public transport system’s route is being expanded with additional infrastructures such as bus shelters and an undercover public transport hub. This well-run DA-led municipality consistently receives clean audits and works hard to bring better services to all residents – especially residents in poor communities.

The pro-poor budget

The People Living on the Streets Project helps former homeless residents to obtain an ID document, and shelter, and increases their chances of getting a job.

Leon van Wyk
Executive Mayor
Leon van Wyk was born in Oudtshoorn and completed his schooling in Worcester. He graduated with a BCom from UCT with joint majors in Accounting and Economics, qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1981. He then joined the Industrial Development Corporation as an investigating accountant and later specialised in corporate finance with Rand Merchant Bank,
