Oudtshoorn

This is Oudtshoorn Local Municipality’s first term under DA government.

The vision for the next term is to be a trend-setting, dynamic municipality delivering quality services responsive to the demands and challenges of the community and our constitutional mandate, in which everyone can work together in harmony and dignity. Under the DA, the Municipality is in a far better state than it was; the local government has implemented a financial recovery plan, hands-on oversight by Council, and appointed the top structure.

Oudtshoorn Success Stories

New Youth Bursary Programme will give R600 000’s worth of external bursaries and graduate internships to young people looking to work in local government.

Project Keep Oudtshoorn Clean created 30 temporary jobs in the three-week clean-up.

DA-led Oudtshoorn has leased its first 20/40 brand new vehicles to roll out services efficiently.

DA-led Oudtshoorn is handing over its second phase of houses as part of its 986-house, three-phase housing project.

Oudtshoorn is now the fourth stop of the new Cross Cape cycling route, which will drive tourists to towns across the province.

All qualifying indigent residents get 50 units free electricity and 6kl free water. Beneficiaries can also get a free gravesite and tax rebates on the first R70 000 of their property value.

To empower the youth

the Municipality is drawing up plans for a satellite Chrysalis Academy to provide at-risk young people with skills and a 12-month EPWP temporary work contract.

Land is being made available for a clinic and a school in Rosevalley.

“I was struggling to get assistance to repair the roof of my creche. On rainy days my children would suffer. When the councillor came in and saw this she came back a few days later with material to fix it.” – Nontle Doreen Katshweni, Bongolethu

Since the 2016 elections, DA-led Oudtshoorn has gone from dire straits to winning the Best Upgraded Informal Settlements Program (UISP) Award in the Western Cape 2017 Govern Mbeki Awards.
