Tim Harris

Shadow Minister of Finance

Tim Harris was born in Cape Town but grew up in Durban where he attended Hilton College.  He completed a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English Literature and Economics, at the University of Cape Town and then an Honours degree in Economics.  After a period working at an investment bank in Johannesburg he returned to Cape Town to complete his Masters in Economics. 
 
He has worked on five election campaigns since 2004. In 2005 he was appointed as Chief of Staff for Tony Leon, the longest-serving Leader of the Opposition in democratic South Africa.  In the 2009 national elections, he managed the campaign events team for Helen Zille, the current leader of the Democratic Alliance, before being elected to Parliament as a member of the Western Cape delegation in the National Council of Provinces.
 
He currently serves on the Standing Committee on Finance in the National Assembly and is the Parliamentary Counsellor to Leader of the Opposition, Lindiwe Mazibuko. Tim serves as the Vice-President for Africa on the Bureau of Liberal International, the global group of liberal political parties. He is the constituency MP for Cape Town’s Good Hope Constituency which includes Hout Bay, the Atlantic Seaboard  the City Bowl and the Western Seaboard.
 
Tim lives in Green Point, Cape Town with his wife and daughter.
