In light of recent revelations concerning Deputy President Paul Mashatile, the DA will supplement our initial complaint to the Public Protector, shedding light on how these new details contribute to the emergence of ANC State Capture 2.0. We will request the Public Protector to extend the scope of her investigation to include these latest allegations.

Reports indicate that Deputy President Paul Mashatile is currently residing in a lavish R37 million home, which was purchased by his son-in-law, Nceba Nonkwelo, who allegedly received funding from Gauteng government entities. Furthermore, Mashatile’s son, Thabiso, is listed as a co-purchaser of the property. These circumstances raise alarming questions about potential impropriety and the abuse of public funds to finance the luxury lifestyles of ANC cadres – a carbon copy of State Capture 1.0.

While Mashatile’s spokesperson and son have attempted to provide explanations for the move to this property, it is worth noting that the purchase process was initiated months before alleged threats against Mashatile were made. The coincidental timing of Mashatile’s occupation and the finalisation of the property’s registration at the deeds office raises doubts about the validity of the explanations provided.

In light of these new revelations, the DA believes it is essential to expand the scope of the investigation into Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s activities. We will be requesting that the Office of the Public Protector conducts a comprehensive examination of these troubling connections, potential breaches of the Executive Members Ethics Act, violations of the Constitution, and any other relevant legal provisions.

Our commitment is to ensure transparency, accountability, and the dismantling of ANC State Capture 2.0 before it wreaks further havoc on our society. The people of South Africa deserve to have faith in their elected officials and a government that serves their interests, rather than those of a corrupt few. The DA remains steadfast in our fight against corruption and our unwavering dedication to safeguarding the rights and aspirations of all South Africans.
