‘The City has already helped hundreds of beneficiaries of historic housing programmes. Over the past few weeks, the Human Settlements Directorate visited areas across Khayelitsha including Mandela Park, Kuyasa and Makhaza and will visit other areas in the metro over the coming months.

‘We once again encourage beneficiaries to come forward and claim their title deeds as this will assist them in formalising their home ownership as well as provide them with security of tenure.

‘It is a challenge that beneficiaries of the projects which were completed 10 or 20 years ago have not come forward and where these beneficiaries have changed their contact details or are not residing in Cape Town any longer. We are focusing our communication on areas outside of Cape Town in an effort to reach those who no longer live within the metro.

‘We thank the Human Settlements officials for assisting residents and we look forward to helping many more residents in other areas of the metro in the coming weeks,’ said Alderman James Vos, Acting Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements.

More than 12 000 historic transfers were registered resulting in title deeds being issued

Since 2013, the City has transferred more than 12 000 properties in historic developments, resulting in title deeds being issued to beneficiaries in these developments across the metro.
