Haaskraal Road upgrade is progressing well.

This 24 kilometer stretch of road carries a high volume of farming related traffic and also serves the Bergrivier Primary School. It is the most important connecting road between Wellington and Hermon and is one of the few roads in the Cape Winelands District Municipal area that is not tarred. Approximately ten kilometers of this road falls within the boundaries of the Drakenstein Municipality.

The key to successful local government is about being committed and determined to doing the basics right. This includes delivering basic services to all residents and improving access in areas where they are needed most.

The upgrading of the Haaskraal road is being funded by R20 million from the Western Cape Provincial budget and contractors are already on site. The project includes widening the road, constructing stormwater canals and drains and tarring the first 3.8 kilometers of the road.

The upgrade will negate the current maintenance costs related to clearing and leveling, repairing stormwater damage and dealing with flooding and excess mud. The upgrade will also contribute to improved road safety conditions for motorists.

Well run cities and towns inspire the confidence of business and attract job creating investment which, in turn, helps reduce unemployment and provides people with access to life changing opportunities.

The upgrading program once again shows the commitment of local and provincial government to make a difference in the lives of residents living in rural areas and farming communities.
