You can access the presentation on the performance and financial statements of South African Airways for the fourth quarter of 2017/18 here
We welcome the decision by Deputy Minister of Finance, Mondli Gungubele, to do the right thing and make public the presentation on the performance and financial statements of South African Airways for the fourth quarter of 2017/18.
This follows a short “Mexican Standoff” that arose after the Acting Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Finance, Thandi Tobias, took a unilateral decision:
- to terminate a finance committee meeting on the performance and financial statements of South African Airways for the fourth quarter of 2017/18; and
- instructed committee staff members to call “security” to seize documents distributed to finance committee members.
The presentation, which should never have been withheld from the public, and which could never have been discussed in a closed meeting, reveals unsurprisingly that South African Airways made a staggering loss of R5.67 billion in 2017/18.
