THE GOVERNMENT OF NATIONAL UNITY

South Africa entered a new political chapter after the 2024 election.

No single party won a majority. Parties had to work together.

The Democratic Alliance chose to join the Government of National Unity to help stabilise the country and drive reform.

Why the DA is in the GNU

The DA joined the Government of National Unity to help stabilise South Africa and turn the country in the right direction.

We are there to:

  • Help fix years of service failure and state collapse.
  • Protect the country from unstable and extreme coalition politics.
  • Fight corruption from the inside, where it can be exposed and stopped.

Being in government allows the DA to drive change and hold others accountable.

Progress So Far

There are early signs of improvement, but reform must continue.

These are positive signs. But more must be done.

The Next Phase of Reform

Stability is the base on which economic growth and clean government must deliver.

These reforms will support jobs, restore confidence and strengthen service delivery.

Guardrails for Growth

The DA will not support policies that harm growth or cost South Africans their jobs.

This includes:

  • National Health Insurance in its current form.
  • A R100 billion “Transformation Fund” tax.
  • Bailouts for failing municipalities without strict accountability.
  • Foreign policy decisions that damage trade and investment.
  • BEE in its current form, replacing it instead with a more inclusive empowerment system

South Africa cannot afford policies that weaken the economy.

The Way Forward

The GNU has created an opportunity for stability and reform.

The DA is committed to making it work.

We will support what grows the economy.

We will fight what harms it.

South Africa can grow.

South Africa can create jobs.

But only if we choose reform.
