The DA notes the purposeful steps taken by the City of Tshwane to prevent an EFF march on an old-age home in Pretoria from turning violent.

It is in stark contrast with the hapless management we have seen from the ANC government faced with similar situations.

The EFF has called the march on Huis Herfsblaar a “racism march”, but the march has less to do with racism than political opportunism.

The EFF will feed off any morsel of discord and division it can find. It is even willing to target and intimidate vulnerable old people hoping to evoke emotionally charged imagery to promote their destructive political agenda.

The last time the EFF targeted a Pretoria old age home in this way, the home had to be evacuated and personnel who become entangled with the EFF lost their jobs.

This should never happen again, and the DA will work with law enforcement agencies and the community to safeguard the home.

Today DA public representatives, including councillor Roelof Fourie, who has been liaising with local community structures on an ongoing basis, will be at Huis Herfsblaar to monitor the situation.

The DA will ensure that security services and the legally mandated community fora cooperate to ensure that the law is respected and our vulnerable are safe.
