DA Federal Leader, John Steenhuisen, Constituency Head of Cape Agulhas, Nicholas Myburgh and Shadow Minister on Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Noko Masipa, conducted an oversight at NAMPO Cape during the weekend.

The Western Cape NAMPO Cape held another successful farmer’s agriculture show after a two year break due to Covid-19. NAMPO Cape Agricultural Show held annually in Bredasdorp is the biggest agriculture show in the Western Cape. This Cape show allows farmers in the province who did not make it to NAMPO Free State to come and experience new technologies in the marketplace and engage with other role players in the market. These cutting edge technologies are essential because they enable farmers to improve their yields.

These engagement platforms were established through partners in agriculture and land reform. During the show, there were discussions and sharing of best practices in land reform, agricultural policies and agricultural production.

The DA encourages partnerships between the banks, government and other private sector-led land reform initiatives to address the failures of land reforms.

One such partnership initiative with its origin from Witzenberg, Partners on Agri Land Solution (PALS), enlightened the sector about its work across the country in addressing the shortfalls in land and agricultural reforms.  PALS is a not-for-profit company, established by farmers in partnership with local communities and all three spheres of Government. Its key objective is to create an enabling environment to implement innovative land reform and inclusive agricultural growth that support social harmony.

The DA welcomes Nedbank’s support of R7 million towards PALS SA in order to build capacity and introduce innovative approaches to address land and agricultural reforms in the country.

The Premier of Western Cape, Allan Winde and his cabinet took the opportunity to engage the farmers and agri-businesses at NAMPO Cape. The DA supports this initiative and sees the NAMPO Cape Agriculture Show as a great platform to engage the sector in order to address all the challenges the industry is faced with.
