The DA is deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Dr Denis Worrall – an exceptional individual whose contributions as an academic, businessman, politician, and diplomat left a lasting impact on South Africa.

Denis Worrall’s political career spanned several significant roles in politics and diplomacy – he was a Senator for the Cape Province, later a member of Parliament for the Gardens Constituency and South Africa’s Ambassador to Australia and the United Kingdom.

In 1987 he resigned as South Africa’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom on a matter of principle and returned to South Africa to fight a by-election against the then Minister of Constitutional Development, Chris Heunis, that he narrowly lost.

Dr Worrall’s legacy is his commitment to principle and his many contributions to South Africa – politically, diplomatically and in business.

He will be greatly missed and our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.
