The DA calls on all parents, educators, community members, school governing bodies (SGBs), and stakeholders to attend the public participation hearings on the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill this weekend in KwaZulu-Natal.
The BELA Bill has a number of clauses that will seriously undermine schools and SGBs rights to determine their own admission and language policies, and place it in the hands of a government that continues to put ideology ahead of learners’ best interest.
The public participation process in Mpumalanga, where the majority of participants shared the DA’s concerns with the Bill and rejected it, emboldened us in our fight to stop the BELA Bill from being bulldozed through Parliament.
