The Public Service Commission (PSC) has found that former Minister of Social Development, the ANC’s Sisisi Tolashe, should be investigated by the Public Protector for unethical conduct.
The DA has already opened a complaint with the Public Protector against Tolashe.
In addition to the scandals of donated Chinese vehicles, issues of appointments of senior staff, and defying the President, later allegations of Tolashe and her family exploiting a food aide who was employed by the Department of Social Development (DSD) were absolutely unacceptable.
That is why I wrote to the PSC asking them to investigate the former ANC minister regarding her alleged abuse of the food aide who worked in her home.
The DA’s existing complaint against Tolashe, with the Public Protector questions her breaching the Executive Members’ Ethics Act 82 of 1998 and the Executive Ethics Code when she allegedly failed to follow legal prescripts and defied the President when she allegedly initiated disciplinary steps against the former Director-General (DG), Peter Netshipale, and in the process to appoint a new DG.
The DA’s standing complaint against Tolashe should now be supplemented with the new referral from the Public Service Commission too.
Tolashe does not escape accountability and legal liability simply by being removed from office, and removed as Minister.
It is high time that legal accountability applies to ANC Ministers who treat their offices as personal fiefdoms.
