Midvaal Mayor assists local schools

20 Feb 2018 in Where We Govern

The  Executive Mayor Bongani Baloyi, in partnership with Afrimat, recently visited Rusoord Secondary School to donate school shoes and sanitary packs to learners.

The school, which was previously a top performer, saw a drastic drop in its matric pass rate in the 2017 National Senior Certificate exams, making it one of the worst performing schools in the Sedibeng District.

Mayor Baloyi told pupils and teachers the municipality would commit to providing the school with the resources necessary to improve its academic outcome in 2018.

“We are working to ensure that we mitigate some of the challenges the school is facing in order to make your lives easier, and to give you a better chance at improving your lives and the outcome of the school at the end of this year,” said Mayor Baloyi.

The Mayor’s visit also came as the school was mourning the passing of one of its learners, who committed suicide two days earlier. The municipality has sent its condolences to the pupil’s family, friends and fellow scholars. Trauma councillors will also be sent to the school to assist those affected by the tragedy.

The Executive Mayor will continue to monitor the school’s performance throughout the year, to ensure a better learning and teaching environment at the school.
