In September 2019, the DA-led Langeberg municipality officially opened a new sports field in Nkqubela, Robertson. The field’s astro turf surface is the first of its kind in the municipal region.

The facility consists of a full-sized soccer field, netball court and a mini soccer field that can be used for Futsal (5 a side soccer). The new sport field in Nkqubela will provide a safe area for young people in the area to participate in extra mural activities.

The construction of the project started in February 2018 and was completed in June 2019. The project cost approximately R14.8 million, of which R12.4 million was funded from the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) and the rest from the municipal budget. A total of 28 800-man hours of local labour was used in the construction phase.

As a responsive government, the DA-led Langeberg municipality recognised the importance of providing safe spaces where children and young people can play and relax.
