On Friday 4 October 2019, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, visited the Valhalla Park Housing Project to check on its progress.
The Valhalla Park Housing Project, which will be home to 777 beneficiaries, is making steady progress.
The installation of civil works is currently underway. The construction of the State-subsidised houses will commence once the civil works have been completed.
‘It is encouraging to see that the Valhalla Park Housing Project is making progress. The construction of the State-subsidised houses is expected to commence in approximately two months’ time, if all goes according to plan.
‘Nine contractors have been appointed to fast-track work on site, particularly the construction of the houses. This will ensure that, where possible, work on site takes place concurrently to deliver the 777 houses in the shortest possible time to the benefit of the beneficiaries. The project has experienced delays and therefore, the City has partnered with the Western Cape Government (WCG) to resume the construction of the Valhalla Park Housing Project,’ said Councillor Booi.
In the coming weeks, show houses demonstrating the four design-types in the project will be built on site. The types of houses include:
- free-standing single-storey
- semi-detached single-storey
- free-standing double-storey
- semi-detached double-storey
‘The show houses will afford the community the opportunity to see the type of houses that will be built. It will also be used by contractors as a template to replicate the design.
‘Going forward, the City will make every effort to ensure that the project stays on track so that the qualifying beneficiaries can receive their homes. The beneficiaries will be informed when their houses are ready for occupation. In the meantime, the Project Steering Committee, which includes representatives for the beneficiaries, is updated on matters related to the project, including its progress.
‘We want to thank the community and all stakeholders for their support while this project is under way and we look forward to the construction phase,’ said Councillor Booi.
