New WhatsApp Reporting Line Brings Service Delivery Closer to Residents

The DA-led Langeberg municipality has launched an official WhatsApp line which will make the reporting of service delivery issues easier and more convenient for all residents. The line will be manned by municipal call centre staff who will be available 24/7.

This new service will not replace traditional methods of logging faults at the municipality but is merely an alternative way of fault logging and will feed into the complaints system, flagging it with the relevant departments. Residents can use the WhatsApp line to report issues such as power outages, broken streetlights, electricity blockages, burst pipes, as well as any illegal activities that they may be witness to. The WhatsApp line also allows residents to send photographs and a location pin when reporting faults.

For the WhatsApp message to register on the municipal complaints management system, residents are asked to include the necessary information such as their contact name and surname, address and meter or account number(s). Residents must also ensure that they receive a reference number after they send a message to 065 211 7822, to ensure that the fault has been logged.

Executive mayor Henry Jansen said that the municipality will continue to strive to excel and ensure that service delivery is kept to a standard that all can be proud of. In 2016 the DA made a promise to voters that it will lead the way in finding innovative ways to address service delivery. Now, ensuring that the municipality is responsive to service delivery issues is as easy as sending a WhatsApp to your best friend.
