The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has produced safe travel protocols for use by the travel and tourism sector. The protocols highlight best practice when it comes to COVID-19 and aims to help rebuild confidence in destinations around the world. Once these protocols are met, a Safe Travel Stamp is awarded which will allow travellers to recognise tourism businesses that have adhered to the global health and safety guidelines.
As the official Destination Marketing and Management Organisation for the City of Cape Town, Cape Town Tourism (CTT) , has received this globally recognised Safe Travels Stamp and is now also able to issue the stamp to member businesses who adhere to the guidelines.
Consumer confidence is key to rebuilding the tourism and related sectors in Cape Town and this award will go a long way to assuring visitors, both domestic and international, when this travel reopens, that Cape Town is ready to welcome back tourists.
As we move to Alert Level 2 of the national lockdown regulations and we open Cape Town to inter-provincial travel once again, it is becoming increasingly important to position our beautiful City as a safe and healthy destination in a COVID-19 world.
We are proud that we, as a City, align with these safety standards. I congratulate industry stakeholders for their commitment and grit that they have shown during the lockdown and look forward to getting back to work.
Together with the Enterprise and Investment Department and CTT, we have been hard at work on our strategy to bounce back. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail and we cannot afford to do so if we are to salvage these vital sectors as well as the jobs and families they support.
The tourism bounce back strategy the City has developed together with CTT will ensure that we breathe life back into the tourism industry and plot a sustainable and inclusive future for this vital and vibrant sector. I look forward to sharing these plans with the public soon.
