Drakenstein is #Safe!

22 Sep 2020 in Where We Govern

Drakenstein is renowned for its scenic beauty, its fascinating historic and cultural diversity, and its growing reputation for rugged adventure sport. The region has developed into a ‘must visit’ tick on the checklist of many local and international tourists.

And while there is no doubt that the COVID-19 Pandemic has temporarily put many travel plans on hold, the DA run Drakenstein municipality has been hard at work to ensure that once the travel bans are lifted, we will be ready to welcome tourists and visitors back to our valley.

As such, an application has been made by the Drakenstein Local Tourism Association (DLTA) for the Safe Travels Stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). The Safe Travels stamp enables travelers to identify destinations and businesses around the world which have adopted WTTC health and hygiene global norms and protocols.

Popular holiday destinations that have been awarded the Safe Travels Stamp include Turkey, Portugal and Mauritius. We are motivating Drakenstein for this award based on our quick and rigorous adoption of recommended hygiene and sanitary measures in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic; the initiatives implementing and addressing elevated standards of hygiene and safety; and the measures taken to ensure that we are ready to safely welcome local and international visitors.

As a further precaution, all Drakenstein Local Tourism Association (DLTA) members are asked to sign the TBCSA safety protocol pledge after which they are issued with a certificate of compliance as well as an adaptation of our destination logos for use on websites and electronic platforms.

The DLTA will also include a section on each of the websites outlining the minimum requirements with regard to the safety protocols. A series of appropriate hashtags are being used to inform, generate digital traffic and support our campaigns which states that Drakenstein is safe and open for business.  For more information visit the Visit Paarl and Visit Wellington Facebook pages.
