Drakenstein Municipality recently welcomed some of its new bursary holders at a function at the Paarl City Hall. Executive Mayor Conrad Poole met and congratulated the learners.

In keeping with its mandate to be a caring and responsive municipality, Drakenstein Municipality presented a total of 114 bursaries to deserving learners to assist them on their journey into tertiary education.

A total of 94 bursaries went to External Bursary Holders ((Drakenstein Municipality locally based students), while 20 bursaries went to Rural Bursary Holders (emphasis on rural student development, particularly from farms).

Executive Mayor Poole encouraged the new bursary holders to work hard to achieve their goals. He said education was important because it was the one thing that could lift you out of your circumstances.

Drakenstein Municipality annually invites qualifying unemployed applicants between 18 and 35 years, who permanently reside in Drakenstein to apply for partial full-time study bursaries in fields relevant to the local government sphere.
