Recently the Breede Valley Municipality handed over yet another batch of title deeds to worthy residents – some who now have their own name registered on a property. This initiative lies close to the heart of the BVM, as title deeds can inspire hope and give dignity where needed.

In the week of 14 March 2022, BVM handed over title deeds in Worcester, Avianpark, Zwelethemba and Touwsrivier.

The following title deeds were handed over amounting to a total of 54. 11 in Worcester, 8 in Touwsrivier, 25 in Avianpark and 10 in Zwelethemba were haned over.

Breede Valley Municipality have a partnership with the Free Market Foundation set out in a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Free Market Foundation approached the Municipality in respect of low cost housing developments which were completed before 1994 as part of the housing schemes of the Municipality to attend to beneficiary verifications, administrations and the transfer of rental properties to the legal tenants.

The parties entered a formal agreement on 3 January 2020 upon receiving instructions from the Municipality, to ensure that such pre-1994 properties developed as part of housing schemes of the Municipality are transferred to the rightful subsidy beneficiaries.

When the transfer process is finalised the Municipal Office and the Housing Department arranges a Title Deed Ceremony where all new Homeowners are invited and their Title Deeds are then handed over to them on that day. They also receive Housing Consumer Education and are them informed of their responsibilities of being a Homeowner.

We also run the project of housing completed after 1994 (post-1994) in partnership with various stakeholders internally and on provincial level.
