Communities in and around the City of Tshwane continue to benefit from the formalisation of informal settlements under the DA-led multi-party administration wherein qualifying beneficiaries are encouraged to take advantage of government subsidised homes, are bestowed title deeds and others relocated to well laid-out serviced stands.
In its latest execution, the Msimanga administration handed over 55 of the 120 title deeds to residents of Refilwe in Region 5. The remaining title deeds can be collected at the local municipal office and we encourage those rightful beneficiaries to do so as soon as possible.
The DA-led mylti-party administration consciously took a decision to accelerate the process of security of tenure to its citizens in line with the Vision 2030 of building sustainable communities and providing adequate, quality services and infrastructure for all residents.
To date, a total of 488 title deeds have been received from Province for Extensions 2, 3, 4 and 5. 206 of which have already been handed to beneficiaries in these extensions.
The Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Solly Msimanga, welcomed the progress being made in restoring the dignity of lives of the people of Tshwane, “As a caring City, we believe that the provision of services also includes the delivery of housing opportunities. We have started in earnest to make the informal settlement living conditions much more humane by ensuring that all residents including vulnerable groups receive fair treatment and quality services. We remain steadfast in our efforts to bring services to more households within our borders”.
Under the leadership of MMC for Housing and Human Settlements, Cllr Mandla Nkomo, the department is working on a priority list of informal settlements (Project Tirane) that will be prioritised for upgrading in the next MTREF period.
Some of the formalisation processes that have taken place in Refilwe include:
- 770 households from Refilwe Extension 9 have been relocated from Machaka View.
- Pienaarspoort has 2 654 formalized households from neighbouring privately owned farm in Pienaarspoort and from Stoffel Park and other parts of the City such as Mamelodi. Currently an electrical project to have the area electrified is underway.
- Relocation of Refilwe Extensions 2, 3 and 5 will commence soon. The City has prioritized to allocate 600 stands to backyard dwellers in both Wards 99 and 100. The relocation will launch once rudimentary services can be provided.
The City of Tshwane is working towards providing quality services to all residents, adopting innovative solutions to service delivery challenges, and reprioritising resources to where they are needed most.
This DA-led multi-party government is committed to the issuing of title deeds at an accelerated rate to ensure promotion of security of tenure and also to unlocks economic opportunities for the most disadvantaged communities.
