The Executive Mayor of Stellenbosch, Councillor Gesie van Deventer, says they are very proud of the success of the recently opened Mooiwater Park in the area of Franschhoek. The Park was the result of a project launched after it became clear that the area lacked a decent play park and usable outdoor recreational environment.
The municipality set to work to change this and the Park now boasts not only a play area for the children including the traditional swings and slides but also an outdoor Gym area for all members of the community to use.
The Project brings together a play park and outdoor gym situated on artificial grass, an important aspect given the water shortages across the province. The area has been fenced off to provide safety and security to all users and formal pathways and a wooden bridge connect both areas adjacent to the river.
The addition of signage, benches for seating and bins for refuse add to the features of this user friendly outdoor environment in which residents can feel dignified, safe and enjoy the Greenest Municipality.
Mayor van Deventer added that Parks often help to make inner city neighbourhoods more liveable, they offer recreational opportunities for the youth and provide safe spaces where residents can experience a sense of community.
