Weekly Water Statistics 18 October 2017

23 Oct 2017 in Where We Govern

Please note Section 2C water restrictions and emergency tariffs remain in place in George for at least two months following the rise of the Garden Route Dam to above 45% (when 2C restrictions start applying according to the Drought Management Plan), provided the conditions consistently remain above the Section 2C requirements and the town’s immediate water security remains satisfactory.

Section 2C applies when the dam is below 45% and means:  • 15kl per month limitation per household, after which emergency tariffs apply.  • Business must reduce consumption by 15% or may be fined.  • Large industry must reduce consumption by 10% or may be fined. • “OWN WATER” signage where applicable and must be proven on request by municipal officials. During Section 2C MUNICIPAL water may NOT be used for: • watering gardens mechanically or with a hosepipe,  • cleaning of outside surfaces with a hosepipe (buckets allowed) • washing the car with a hose (buckets allowed) • watering sports fields • filling up swimming pools

Even if the Section 2C tariffs are lifted, Section 2B restrictions will be applicable up to the 60% dam level mark, again for at least two months thereafter. Other considerations include the potential impact of the summer holiday season on water usage.

Section 2B applies when the dam is between 45% and 60% and means: • handheld watering of gardens only 7pm-9pm (even-numbered households Mondays and Thursdays, uneven-numbered households Tuesdays and Fridays) • “OWN WATER” signage where applicable and must be proven on request by municipal officials. During Section 2B MUNICIPAL water may NOT be used for: • mechanical irrigation of gardens (sprayers) • watering sports fields, exemption for golf course greens, bowling greens and cricket pitches daily 7pm-9pm • filling up swimming pools  • washing the car with a hose (buckets allowed), exemption for commercial car washes • cleaning of outside surfaces with a hosepipe (buckets allowed)
