The Western Cape Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with Drakenstein Municipality, exposed 8 learners from the Paarl School of Skills to the possibilities of a career in agri-processing.

The learners, a teacher and a member of the support staff attended training at Elsenburg’s AgriHub for three days, where they were taught the skill of making yoghurt, cheese, artisanal bread, pear juice and the importance of minimizing food waste by processing.

The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Rural Development, Cllr Rita Andreas, (who started her career as a seasonal farm worker picking grapes) is passionate about making sure opportunities are available to rural youth. “The Rural Development Division at the Municipality, in conjunction with its partners, will always work tirelessly to ensure that rural youth have opportunities at their disposal to be responsible citizens and give them information on how they can start business that create employment” Cllr Rita Andreas. #ACityofExcellence #ForTheLoveOfAgriculture
