On Thursday, 5 March 2020, the Executive Mayor’s ‘Keep Cape Town Clean’ Campaign visited Khayelitsha. This campaign was launched in 2019 and has seen various organisations and community members join in to help keep Cape Town neighbourhoods clean.
‘We will continue our efforts to clean communities and attempt to change behaviour relating to illegal dumping. Clean communities inspire pride and create spaces for recreation, with the campaign intended to assist the work done by the City’s Solid Waste Department. Our staff in Solid Waste Management carry out regular refuse removal, but our ultimate goal is to get communities to do their part too,’ said Executive Mayor, Alderman Dan Plato.
Through this campaign, we interact with communities and demonstrate the importance of being involved in helping to clean their neighbourhoods.
Illegal dumping is harmful and against the law. Vehicles used in illegal dumping can be confiscated and a release fee of nearly R16 000 will be charged, over-and-above the fines issued for dumping. To report illegal dumping, please call 0860 103 089.
We call on our residents to come out and support the campaign. #KeepCapeTownClean!
