City continues to bring services to residents, opens another customer office in mall

The City of Cape Town has opened a new Revenue Customer Care and Motor Vehicle Registration and Licensing (MVRL) Office in Lansdowne, bringing its services closer to residents. The office will handle a number of different transactions including motor vehicle licence renewals, and municipal account and traffic fine payments. The City managed to licence and register the more than 1,3 million registered vehicles in Cape Town in only six months in an effort to address the COVID-19-created backlogs, which is a country-wide phenomenon. Efforts to enhance service delivery despite the pandemic continue.

On Monday, 8 February 2021, the City of Cape Town opened its new Revenue Customer Care, Motor Vehicle Registration and Licensing (MVRL) Office, and housing office at the Lansdowne Corner Shopping Centre. Conveniently located in the heart of the metro’s southern suburbs, this new office is an example of how the City is bringing services closer to its residents. The City opened similar offices in Liberty Promenade Mall in Mitchells Plain in 2014 and another at Table Bay Mall in Sunningdale in 2019.

The new office will handle motor vehicle licence renewals and vehicle registrations, all enquires relevant to rates and services, and accept payments for municipal accounts and traffic fines. The revenue office will process rates rebates and indigent applications as well as payment arrangements, refunds and rates relief. It will also sell pre-paid electricity and solid waste disposal coupons, among other services and transactions.

A housing office will also share the space. Transactions which may be conducted there include logging service requests such as maintenance, signing of lease agreements and applying to renew lease agreements.

Customers are reminded to only visit an office if absolutely necessary and to rather make use of our other convenient payment options. If customers must visit a customer office in person, please remember that there is COVID-19 screening at the entrances and a limited number of customers are allowed in at a time due to COVID-19 regulations. Social distancing must be adhered to and masks are compulsory.

The length of queues inside the office might seem long due to the social distancing and other COVID-19 measures that are in place. We thank residents for their patience during this extraordinary time.

‘This office is an example of how the City is changing the way in which we deliver services so that they are easier for our residents to access within their communities. We are working to secure similar opportunities in other areas in the metro. We are transforming how our City works to make it a more responsive, customer-centric organisation which is there to serve the people of Cape Town.

‘We are particularly pleased that the office will facilitate debt arrangements, applications for indigent registrations and rates rebates for senior citizens and those with special needs. Offering these services to residents at their doorstep will make a real difference to the lives of our more vulnerable residents, especially at this time when an increased number of our residents are in need of this type of assistance.

‘The City managed to licence and register the more than 1,3 million registered vehicles in Cape Town in only six months, between June 2020 and December 2020. This is a doubling of the number of vehicle transactions normally done per month and what would typically be done over a year. This has been in an effort to address the COVID-19-created backlogs, which is a country-wide phenomenon.

‘It is important that all of our customer services become more accessible and convenient for our residents. We will continue to take service delivery to the next level and the opening of this office is an example of the City doing exactly that,’ said Alderman Ian Neilson, Mayoral Committee Member for Finance.

The office will be open daily and opening hours will be as follows:

Monday – Friday: 08:30 – 16:00
Saturday: 09:00 – 12:30
Sunday: 09:00 – 12:30
