Social Media & Marketing Officer, Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature (Fixed Term Contract ending 7 day after the General Election in 2024)

The DA wishes to appoint a dynamic, self-motivated and goal driven individual, who will be based in the Eastern Cape. The successful candidate will report to the Chief of Staff and take direction from the Chief Whip.

The successful candidates will be responsible for: 

  • Working with Print Design programmes to produce material for use on all social media platforms and
    print media that promotes the DA brand and values
  • Designing Caucus artwork, infographics and brand materials
  • Live updates on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram from events and press conferences.
  • Video production and editing
  • Assisting with EC Legislature social media posts
  • Devising and implementing social media campaigns on request of the Caucus
  • Constantly investigating and identifying opportunities to market the DA online
  • Assisting with Opposition Research and intelligence on social media and digital platforms.
  • Providing weekly progress reports on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter usage using online monitoring
  • Assisting the Caucus with any design requirements for internal marketing purposes and presentations
  • Assisting the Caucus with any research on digital platforms as and when required

Prospective applicants must meet the following requirements: 

  • National Senior Certificate
  • Post matric qualification in social media/digital marketing/graphic design
  • 5 years’ experience in a Media Officer or Journalist role
  • Relevant experience in content writing and investigative journalism
  • A proven track record of managing social media and marketing in a large company or organization
  • Knowledge of the local, provincial and national political environment and dynamics
  • Knowledge of the political landscape and communications and social media trends.
  • Knowledge of Video Editing, Design of infographics, print and broadcast journalism and social media
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, Smartsheet)
  • Proficient with video editing and design programmes.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong coordinating skills
  • Time management skills
  • Ability to conduct accurate research
  • Ability to effectively use all media platforms
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Systematic, comprehensive and displaying excellent attention to detail
  • Commitment to the principles, policies and programme of action of the Democratic Alliance
  • Outcomes-orientated, not simply task-orientated
  • Willingness to go the extra mile, which may include working long and irregular hours, weekends, and public holidays where necessary
  • Applicants MUST be in possession of a valid driver’s licence and have access to an insured vehicle for daily use
