Solly Malatsi

Deputy Federal Chairperson 2

Solly Malatsi was elected the second deputy federal chairperson of the party at the 2023 federal congress.

He has a long history in the party starting as a student activist, evolving into a staff member and ultimately becoming public representative.

He has been a Member of Parliament since 2014 and has served in several portfolios as the party’s Shadow Minister for Sports and Recreation, Human Settlements, and Communications.

He is a graduate of the party’s Young Leaders Programme in its inaugural year in 2007.

He has a wealth of experience in political communications and media relations having first served as the party’s national spokesperson from 2018 – 2020. He was reappointed to this role for this second stint in June 2022.

He is also the former spokesperson for the MEC of Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape Provincial Government from June 2009 – May 2011.

He has also served as spokesperson for the Mayor of Cape Town from June 2011 – March 2014.

He has a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Limpopo and an Honors Degree in Politics from Wits.

Outside politics, Solly is passionate about football, running and reading.
