Born and raised in KwaNongoma, Zwakele Mncwango matriculated from King Bhezulu High School before moving to Durban to further his studies.
Zwakele completed his B-TECH in Electrical Engineering before turning his focus towards a Bachelor of Technology in Business Administration. He then went on to complete a Strategic Planning course in 2012 and a Political Leadership course in 2015 both at the International Academy for Leadership (IAF) in Germany. In 2014 he graduated from the Graduate School in the USA, where he studied a course on Good Governance and Transparency. Zwakele’s passion for learning has not yet been satisfied, as he continues to expand his knowledge while completing his final year towards a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at UKZN.
Zwakele currently serves as a councillor in eThekwini Municipality, as well as on the Executive Committee, and in April 2015 was voted in as the leader of the official opposition in KwaZulu-Natal.
Zwakele has been a member of the KZN Youth Parliament since 2006 and has participated in a number of different youth clusters and commissions, where he has been involved in different debates around issues of youth development. Zwakele also works as a member of the Provincial Management Committee which improves and implements the DA principles and policies.
During his time at the DA, Zwakele has held different positions such as the vice-chair of a branch; a member of the Constituency Executive; the DA KZN youth leader; DA KZN provincial vice-chairperson and currently holds the following positions: DA Caucus leader in eThekwini Municipality; KZN deputy ADAC chairperson; member of the Provincial Executive Committee(PEC); member of the Provincial Management Committee(PMC) and, most recently, the DA KZN provincial leader.
