Please find attached soundbite from Cllr Mpho Phalatse.
I, along with my colleagues of the Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus in the City of Johannesburg are terribly saddened to learn of the news that Johannesburg Mayor, Jolidee Matongo has tragically passed away from a car accident yesterday.
While we were both representatives of two opposing political parties, Mayor Matongo always treated me with respect as a fellow council colleague, and even during his short tenure as Mayor, was willing to take my calls on matters of critical service delivery issues. During committee meetings in Council, Mayor Matongo was always willing to co-operate across party lines and listen to colleagues with different views.
Mayor Matongo was a kind-hearted individual and I take great comfort in having the privilege to have known and worked with him during our years in the Joburg Council.
I send my sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the people of Johannesburg and will pray that they can find strength during this very tragic time.
Rest in peace, Jolidee. May God welcome you with open arms into His kingdom.
