Title Deeds roadshow heads to Makhaza

28 Jun 2023 in Where We Govern

The City Human Settlements Directorate’s Title Deeds Roadshow visited the residents of Makhaza, Khayelitsha today, 28 June 2023. This month, the City kicked off its title deeds roadshow where beneficiaries of historic housing programmes, including older RDP projects are able to collect their title deeds from the City. Read more below:

The City has thus far assisted hundreds of beneficiaries of historic housing programmes. Over recent weeks, the Human Settlements Directorate visited Mandela Park, Kuyasa and Makhaza and will visit other areas in the metro over the coming months.

‘The City’s Roadshow has been doing very well since we kicked off at the beginning of June and we have assisted hundreds of beneficiaries thus far. We once again urge beneficiaries to come forward and claim their title deeds as this will assist them in formalising their home ownership as well as provide them with security of tenure.

‘Our biggest challenge is the projects which were completed 10 or 20 years ago where beneficiaries have not come forward and where these beneficiaries have changed their contact details or are not residing in Cape Town any longer. We are also focusing our communication on areas outside of Cape Town in an effort to reach beneficiaries that no longer live within the metro.

‘We thank the Human Settlements officials for their dedication in assisting residents and we look forward to assisting more residents in other areas of the city in the coming weeks,’ said Alderman James Vos, Acting Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements.

More than 12 000 historic transfers were registered resulting in title deeds being issued

Since 2013, the City has transferred more than 12 000 properties in historic developments, resulting in title deeds being issued to beneficiaries in these developments across the metro.
