On Thursday 26 October 2023, the DA is taking our fight against the discriminatory School Capture Bill (BELA Bill) to Parliament.

The DA stands concretely against the ANC taking over schools and school language policy.

Under the discriminatory BELA Bill, the head of provincial education departments and MECs will ultimately decide what language is taught in your child’s school and who is admitted to the school.

This means that parents, and School Governing Bodies (SGBs), will lose these powers.

The ANC is the proud sponsor of this discriminatory move, attacking mother tongue education and with this Bill, they will further destroy our schools. The DA will not stand for this.

The protest will be led by the DA’s Shadow Minister of Basic Education, Bax Nodada MP, DA Federal Council Chair, Helen Zille and the DA national spokesperson, Solly Malatsi MP.

Other interest groups and parties that will join the DA-led protest, include:

– CEO of FEDSAS, Jaco Deacon

– Chair of the Pestalozzi Trust, Bouwe van Der Eems

– Founder of LearnFree, Christopher Cordeiro

– ACDP Member of Parliament, Marie Sukers

– FF+ Member of Parliament, Wynand Boshoff

The details are:

Date: Thursday 26 October 2023

Time: 12:15

Place: Louis Botha statue outside Parliament

Address: Corner of Roeland and Plein Streets, Cape Town
