Tomorrow, 16 November 2023, the DA will meet Koeberg Nuclear Power Station engineers to get a first-hand update on the power plant’s life extension project.
The return of Koeberg’s Unit 1 has been delayed several times, depriving the grid of a potential 900MW of much-needed power. The delayed re-synchronisation of Unit 1 and the scheduled switch off of Unit 2 before the end of the year, for refurbishment, has raised concern about the likelihood of the plant having to shut down completely.
Kevin Mileham MP, the DA Shadow Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy will lead the DA delegation. He will be accompanied by Samantha Graham-Maré MP , the DA Shadow Minister of Electricity and Mimmy Gondwe MP, the DA Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises.
The oversight visit will seek to obtain updates on the progress made and expected date of synchronisation for Unit 1, expected switch-off date and re-synchronisation of Unit 2, including the latest update on the Koeberg licence renewal and extension.
