Today, the Democratic Alliance (DA) held a highly successful national day of action across South Africa, protesting against Eskom’s exorbitant electricity tariff hikes. In a show of unity, DA supporters, leaders, and activists were present in all provinces, making our opposition to these unjust increases visible and impactful.
The DA has been fighting this battle on several fronts, and today’s action is just the latest step. Over the past few weeks, we have collected nearly 100 000 signatures for our petition, which will soon be handed over to NERSA and the Minister of Energy to demonstrate the public’s opposition to these tariff hikes. This overwhelming response proves that South Africans are united in rejecting Eskom’s demands.
Tomorrow, this fight moves to Parliament, where the DA has successfully secured an urgent debate on the proposed tariff increases. We will use this platform to hold the ANC government and Eskom accountable for years of mismanagement and to demand solutions that won’t force South Africans into deeper poverty.
Today’s actions, combined with our upcoming Parliamentary debate, are proof that the DA is leading the charge against electricity tariff hikes, and we will not stop until this increase is scrapped.
