Employment data released by Statistics South Africa of 74 000 jobs lost between December and March underscores that our unemployment crisis must be confronted head on. While some of these jobs were seasonal, these numbers demonstrate that our economy can no longer sail with the tide – but pioneer on bravely through deeply reconsidering the economic policies of previous decades.
The DA has tabled multiple reforms in the GNU that will fast track economic growth and job creation, which we will keep fighting for in cabinet and parliament.
We remain resolute, after defeating VAT increases, to remove structural barriers, promote infrastructure investment and labour market reforms, cut red tape and conduct a regulatory review of the state, as well as measures to enhance property rights and policy certainty.
The DA’s battle continues ahead, as we remain committed to delivering an economy that delivers jobs for all South Africans, as well as closes inequality in providing redress and dignity.
