Beginning on Saturday 02 August 2025, the Democratic Alliance will hold a national elective congress for the DA Students Organisation (DASO), the first such congress in 3 years.

DASO is an ancillary organisation of the Democratic Alliance, recognised in the Party’s Federal Constitution as a structure of the party with representation on the party’s decision-making bodies and forums. It is comprised of members of the DA who are enrolled students at tertiary institutions or facilities of higher education and training, across South Africa.

DASO is the structure of the DA responsible for ensuring student and higher learning interests are at the forefront of the national agenda.

The national DASO congress will consider and vote on motions, and amendments to DASO’s operational rules.

The DASO Congress of 2025 will also elect the leadership of DASO, for a three year term of office.

DASO’s federal leadership roles which will be up for election include the DASO Federal Leader and DASO Federal Chairperson. Four Deputy Federal Chairperson positions for DASO will be taken up uncontested, too.

The Congress will be overseen by Congress Convenor Dr Annelie Lotriet MP, who is the DA’s Deputy Chairperson of Federal Council responsible for Anciliary Organisations, and also serves as South Africa’s Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

Media engagement on the DASO Congress 2025 will begin after the conclusion of the voting for leadership.
