The DA welcomes the operationalisation of National Education and Training Council (NETC) by the Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube.
The NETC will serve the Department as an advisory body on basic education policy matters, yet after being first established in 2009, this is the first time the Council has been constituted, to take up its place to advise the Minister on various policy issues. It has taken a DA Minister in this portfolio, to constitute this panel for the first time.
The NETC’s first objectives include the current school resourcing model; assessment, progression, and promotion policies; reducing teachers’ administrative burdens; and expanding access to quality foundational learning.
The formation of the NTEC is a critical step forward in ensuring that the Department of Basic Education is equipped with important and strategic policies based on evidence and facts.
The DA will ensure that proper oversight is done on the NTEC to ensure they are fulfilling their important responsibilities.
