Unisa has failed to adhere to NSFAS schedules of providing registration data promptly on time to ensure student have all necessary financial resources towards their academic success. The university has chosen to redirect is administrative resources towards hosting a national dialogue, taking away, what is supposed to be geared towards the finalization of NSFAS registrations and the allocation of learning data to the student population.
The maladministration at Unisa and failure to carry out one of its core functions as a link between the student and nsfas will truly disturb the academic Calander as thousands of students still encounter difficulties to register at the institution. DASO is disappointed by the institution that prides itself as a distance learning institution but fails in its primary functioning core which is the allocation of learning data.
DASO cautions the university not to redirect its funds that are intended for students to surmount the massive National Dialogue budget. This redirection is deemed a misuse of taxpayers’ funds, and DASO will be formally seeking a legal advisor and open a case with SAPS and HAWKS if the university continues to strengthen its commitment to funding the national dialogue. DASO demands that the financial records of the university be made transparent, as this transgression is a violation of the commitment that Unisa has to its students who are dependent on financial aid
DASO also calls for the accounting officers in the registration department and ICT to account and be held responsible for the delays and poor management by Unisa to submit registration data to NASFAS. Unisa immediately, without delay, disperses funds to all approved NSFAS beneficiaries and halts any financial support to the National Dialogue
