I have just received a letter from Minister Buti Manamela, wherein he admits that his Seta administrator appointments must be investigated.

The DA welcomes that an investigation will now begin, into the three persons appointed as Seta “administrators” by Minister Manamela. Where there is smoke, there is fire.

Manamela has handed over his own appointees to the Public Service Commission, as the public scrutiny has heightened and pressure on him is mounting.

We already know two of the three are implicated in serious corruption, with forensic reports implicating them. And the third of Manamela’s appointees proved unfit for Seta administration after years of failing in the Seta space already.

Manamela is making a huge admission of scandal, by bringing in the Public Service Commission.

I will write to the Commission, to set out the expected terms of this investigation, so that they do not confine themselves to narrow terms. If the PSC is to investigate these latest Seta cadre deployments, they must look at party political connections, and previous allegations and findings in forensic reports.

No matter what the Public Service Commission finds, this is stain on Manamela, and he could and should do the right thing and withdraw these cadre deployments instead.
