English soundbite by Cllr Angus Mckenzie.
The Democratic Alliance calls on the Patriotic Alliance to immediately take harsh action against its Cape Town youth leader who is under criminal investigation for attempting to solicit sexual activity from a teenage girl in Bonteheuwel.
This matter is now the subject of a police investigation, and the full weight of the law must apply.
This incident comes just weeks after PA Leader Gayton Mackenzie’s tweets showed that he repeatedly uses the “k-word,” and shortly after the PA’s former MMC for Roads in Johannesburg was found in the house of a murder accused.
These examples show the PA for what it really is: a party that is home to criminal elements, and it puts personal power above the safety and dignity of our communities.
South Africans deserve leaders who protect children, respect women, and follow the law. Instead, the PA has shown itself to be a party of law-breakers, not law-makers.
The DA will always stand with victims and communities, and the DA won’t tolerate people who try to engage in sex with teenage girls and then pretend to be community leaders.
The PA youth leader who has been caught out in this scandal must face the criminal justice system, and the PA must answer for why it has senior people who prey on vulnerable people in our society, like girl children who are trying to get their education.
The victim, in this case, is trying hard to complete her schooling and get her Matric, which makes the actions of the PA youth leader even more troubling.
The safety of our children is not negotiable.
It’s time for South Africans to see the PA for what it is: not a party that can be trusted.
