The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the decisive action taken by Minister Dean Macpherson and the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure, of blacklisting 40 non-performing contractors since June 2024.

This is a huge achievement. It directly benefits South Africans by ensuring that taxpayer money is no longer wasted on failed or incomplete projects, but instead delivers quality infrastructure that communities can rely on.

For more than twenty years, only one contractor was ever blacklisted. Under Minister Macpherson, the department has started cleaning up procurement, acting against corruption, and ensuring that public money delivers real results.

For too long, weak governance allowed billions in taxpayer funds to be wasted while communities were left with incomplete or poorly built infrastructure. That era is ending. Minister Macpherson has shown that good governance, accountability and strong leadership are possible, and that they bring tangible benefits for South Africans.

The DA commends this turnaround and will continue to hold the corrupt to account. Infrastructure projects are delivered properly for the benefit of all communities
