The Democratic Alliance (DA) is outraged that public money is being used to track down the whistleblower who exposed alleged looting at the Government Pension Administrative Agency (GPAA).
Whistleblowers are heroes. They protect taxpayers and expose corruption. Targeting them sends a chilling message: speak up and you will be punished. South Africa cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the State Capture era where previously reputable firms enabled looting.
The DA demands that this investigation stop immediately and that the money spent on it be returned to the public. Firms should not profit from witchhunts, while also working for government.
The DA is calling for urgent parliamentary hearings to hold GPAA executives accountable. Ultimately, the GPAA should be disbanded, and its work taken over by the The Government Employees Pension Fund to protect pensions and taxpayers.
