Soundbites in English and Afrikaans by Willie Aucamp MP.
Yesterday’s actions by the City of Cape Town, bringing in the South African Police Service to raid and investigate suspected malfeasance by officials, demonstrates the actions of a responsible City government that will not tolerate crime or corruption.
The DA recognises that in yesterday’s raids, it was the City of Cape Town which initiated the police action, showing that where the DA governs, action is taken when wrongdoing is suspected, including calling in the police on City officials.
This police raid came after an internal investigation by the City of Cape Town, led by the City Manager, and results in the evidence being referred to the SAPS.
Where the DA governs, the culture is not for any allegation or suspicion to be swept under a carpet, but instead for law enforcement to be brought in.
The only way for South Africa to be rid of the scourge of corruption is for governments to hand over cases to the police when any suspicions arise, rather than closing ranks and protecting one another as far too many cases show where our opponents govern.
