The Democratic Alliance (DA) has written to Higher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela demanding that he make public the full list of SETA Accounting Authority (AA) appointments.

The appointments were made on 30 September 2025. Nearly a month later, South Africans still do not know who has been entrusted with oversight of R20 billion of taxpayers’ money.

The public has a right to transparency and accountability. Who are the individuals responsible for managing this vast budget? Why the secrecy? This raises serious questions about whether the same culture of poor governance and hidden appointments, as seen in the Nkabane scandal, is being repeated.

The DA calls on Minister Manamela to immediately release the full list of appointed SETA Accounting Authorities, including their names, backgrounds, and the sectors they represent. South Africans cannot be expected to trust governance structures that operate in the shadows.

This transparency is a legal and moral obligation when managing public funds. The public deserve answers now.
