The Democratic Alliance (DA) has formally written to the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Select Committee on Security and Justice, Jane Mananiso, demanding that the Minister of Police, Firoz Cachalia, be urgently summoned to account for the failure to implement police body-worn cameras, as promised to Parliament.
This follows a series of fatal SAPS operations in KwaZulu-Natal over recent weeks, once again raising serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and the absence of independently verifiable evidence during deadly police encounters.
Parliament was assured that the rollout of body-worn cameras would commence from April 2025.
That deadline has passed, yet no meaningful update has been provided to Parliament or the public.
This failure undermines public trust, weakens oversight, and leaves both police officers and civilians exposed.
